General Tennis Information
The programs and facilities at The Clubs at St. James Plantation provide tennis players of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate in a competitive and/or recreational sports activity.
Facility
The Clubs at St. James Plantation Tennis Complex and Pro Shop are located adjacent to The Founders Clubhouse at 3021 Beaver Creek Drive. Brian Preston, Director of Tennis, may be reached by phone, (910) 253-3008, x6, or by email at bpreston@troongolf.com.
The Tennis Shop offers a complete line of tennis clothing, equipment and accessories, as well as racquet stringing and ball machine rental. Individual lessons are available and group clinics are held on a scheduled basis.
Tennis Pro Shop Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Saturday, 8:00 am – 12:00 noon
Sunday, 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm
The tennis facilities may be used by St. James Plantation residents who have a Tennis or Golf Membership in The Clubs at St James Plantation and by their guests. There is no charge for court usage by Members or for guests visiting from more than 60 miles away. There is a small fee for guests from the local area. To establish a Tennis or Golf Membership, please contact Becky Jones, Membership Director, at (910) 253-9500, x2. Tennis and Golf Membership in The Clubs at St. James Plantation also includes access to the fitness and swimming facilities and social activities.
Tennis Courts
The Clubs at St. James Plantation currently has 10 Har-Tru (clay) tennis courts. All courts are lighted for night play. 6 courts are located at The Founders Tennis Complex, 2 at The Members Athletic Center, and 2 at The Players Club Sports Center. 3 additional Har-Tru courts are to be added to The Reserve Club in 2011.
Reservations
Court reservations are strongly recommended. Courts may be reserved up to two hours per session. Reservations may be made up to two weeks in advance by calling the Tennis Pro Shop at (910) 253-3008, x6, or online at www.theclubsatstjames.com > Tennis >Book a Court. First time users must contact the Tennis Pro Shop for a username and password.

USTA/BCTA Participation
League play within St. James Plantation includes two major avenues: the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the Brunswick County Tennis Association (BCTA). Leagues are formed according to gender, age, and ability level. Participation has increased dramatically with many players playing on two or three teams. USTA local league winners advance to State Championships, then to Southern Sectional Championships, and on to Nationals. St. James USTA teams have won 17 State Championship since 2005, 7 State Championships in 2009 alone.
St. James Tennis Association
The SJTA is a resident organization established to benefit all tennis players at St. James – beginners playing socially or advanced players seeking a competitive challenge. The mission of the SJTA is to represent the interests of the members to Troon Management, St. James Development, and the surrounding tennis community. The SJTA keeps its members informed, addresses their concerns, provides a social connection, supports fund raising events, and sponsors tournaments. Its goal is to maintain and improve the tennis facilities and programs as our community and tennis membership grows.

SJTA Membership
SJTA membership is required to participate in SJTA events. The annual membership fee is $15 per individual and $25 per family.
